Is your dog a friendly, well mannered, trained companion who loves getting attention?
Would you and your dog enjoy visiting patients in hospital, residents in retirement or convalescent facilities or participating in reading programs with children? Then, animal assisted therapy may be for you.
Volunteering your time and your loving dog to visit people going through tough times is incredibly rewarding. Your pet will bring smiles and comfort to those people you visit. Your own heart will also smile.

Aptitude and Skills Tests
The tests are categorized by Delta Society in two ways. The exercises are divided under what Delta classifies as Skills and Aptitude. Each team is required to perform all the exercises in both categories for their team evaluation. These exercises are designed to test the dog’s behavior and temperament and allow the evaluator the opportunity to observe the team in mock situations a team may encounter on a pet visit. The tests also help the evaluator screen the handler’s ability to control their pet in various situations. These exercises or tests are modeled after AKC's Canine Good Citizen Test. To view a pictorial and read a description of the skills and aptitude exercises please click on our link to Delta Society in the pull down menu under Therapy Pets.
This is NOT an obedience class. It is an opportunity for you and your dog to fine tune manners, obedience, control & social skills and help prepare you and your dog for your certification. Please do not worry, your dog does not need to perform at competition obedience level.
